About the event
Join the North Sea Maritime Center for an educational lecture on the natural history of Long Island and the forces that have shaped it over the past 12,000 years.
This free lecture examines what makes Long Island’s geology and surrounding waters distinctive, from salt marshes and cranberry bogs to hardwood forests and the Hempstead Plains. Attendees will learn how these landscapes have continuously evolved and influenced the people who have called this island home — and how they continue to shape our society today.
This lecture is part of NSMC’s ongoing commitment to environmental education, maritime heritage, and community programming in North Sea and Southampton.
Free and open to the public, with reservations due to space.
